William (Wil) Divine

11-21-2004: William (Wil) Divine has a lengthy background in business which was interrupted 16 years ago when he entered a Vedanta monastery. The Vedanta Society of Southern California was founded in 1930 in Los Angeles, California and is under the spiritual leadership of the Ramakrshna Order of India. The Vedanta societies are the Western branches of the Ramakrishna Order. Here in the U.S. monks are mostly a contemplative order and ordinarily do not make themselves known to the general public. Wil, for over eight years, experienced a life of solitude, prayer, penance, and meditation in a third-world country. As a monk, he shared his expertise by helping the poor with their energy needs. Living in California at one of the Society's monasteries for the last two years, Wil travels, giving talks at colleges, schools, churches, and environmental groups. Today he will talk about his personal experiences living in solitude as a monk in a monastery.
